This workaround is really smart, anyway in your function _local_replace_bad($value) is small
programming error.
In case $value is not problematic, function returns stripped value causing problems in same scripts
of our clients. I corrected 3 lines:

function _local_replace_bad($value_orig) {

$value = stripslashes($value_orig);
-----
} # if suscpect found
else { $value = $value_orig;} # this line to correct
return($value);
}
