gilaphp, Nope. I wanted to _get_ the value of a constant whose _name_ is stored into a string variable, just like my example in the first comment above shows (have a better look at it). As I said in my other comment, the constant() function was added to this purpose, along with a couple of nice arrays (see the Changelog for php4). But I see it was not into 4.0.1, but into 4.0.4.
