The default way to set this up is completely incompatible with how the Mandrake team has chosen to
lay things out.
I was trying to replace an old Apache 2 and PHP 4.3.8 installation that comes with Mandrake 10.1
with the newer Apache 2.2.2 and PHP 5.1.4.
Well suffice it to say, it installed and worked perfectly - exept that Mandrake still loads the old
Apache server and PHP modules on startup.
If I run the new webserver directly it shows the "It works!" page hosted in the new
webserver's htdocs directory. If I symbolically link to the old /var/www/html directory it is
not configured in the httpd.conf file so that doesn't work. I just get permission errors.
I tried renaming some things .bak (namely configuration files in the new Apache 2 build) and putting
in symbolic links to the old config files. This did not work of course.
I get errors if I try to mix and match modules saying the modules are corrupt, so I suppose they are
compiled differently somehow.
What I want is to install the newer Apache 2 and PHP 5 while not disabling all of the modules
already built into my current Apache config.
Is there a way to do this?
