place holders such as $1 can only be used in specific places. <angry>thanks a lot for NOT
including this in the documentation</angry> as far as i can tell they cannot be used for
inserting column names.
for example this DOES NOT WORK:
pg_prepare($conn, "name", "INSERT INTO Users ($1) VALUES ($2)");
this DOES WORK:
pg_prepare($conn, "name", INSERT INTO Users (UserName) VALUES ($1)");
