I'm using "xampp" as a local Webserver package. It contains an Apache server, PHP (4
and 5), MySQL, a FTP- and a mailserver. Installation is very easy, because the packages are
installed automatically. You can choose if you want to install services or if you want to start the
servers on your own. xampp is available for Windows and Linux platforms: http://www.apachefriends.org/
