and for those of you curious how to test if a string is already all in uppercases... check this out:
$string1 = "Heh";
$string2 = "HEH";
if ($string1 == strtoupper($string1))
print "$string1 is in all caps!<br>\n";
if ($string2 == strtoupper($string2))
print "$string2 is in all caps!<br>\n";
