IMHO there is another simple way to get field's names.
Ex. writing a row with fieldnames:
<?php
echo "
<tr>
<td>".implode("</td><td>",
array_keys(mysql_fetch_assoc(mysql_query($query))))."</td>
</tr>";
// Where $queery is your query.
?>
PS. I have not tested it but may work.
