At least as of version 4.4 (I think), the user name and password are trimmed of leading and trailing
whitespace. So, if your user name is "user" and your password is "pass", you
can send " user " and " pass " and it will still allow you to connect. This can
be significant if ther user name or password is stored in a variable the value of which you will be
re-using somewhere else (where the whitespace may be a problem).
