In case anyone else is getting "Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client" error. The problem is the new password hashing method used by MySQL >= 4.1 mentioned below. Either update your PHP to v5 where the new password hashing is supported or use old_password() in MySQL 4.1.
