The example I gave needs a slight correction.
<?php
....
## PHP 5
if(version_compare(phpversion(), '5.1.2', 'ge'))
return parse_url($url, $component);
....
?>
is the correct condition. Previously it wont work if your on PHP 5 to 5.1.1 since the changes to
parse_url() were implemented in 5.1.2+
