Oops. Description of factorization of polynomials is wrong: it is over the integers modulo two, so
(x^2 + 1) factors into (x+1)*(x+1), not (x+1)*(x-1). (x+1)*(x+1) = (x^2 + 2x + 1) = (x^2 + 0x + 1)
(since integers are modulo 2).
