I've found that by using :
$FTP = ftp_connect('ftp.host.com',$port,$timeout);
takes a _LOT_ longer than doing
$host = gethostbyname('ftp.host.com');
$FTP = ftp_connect($host,$port,$timeout);
Which just doesnt make much sense to me, but this may help someone out there.. For me, it made the
difference between a (fairly straight forward) script taking 60+ seconds to run, to it only taking
< 8 secs... YMMV.
