I experienced hellish problems while trying to install PHP. I knew the codebase worked as it was
running on another machine, but that was using PHP 4.3.3 and and I wanted to install PHP 5.2.0.
An overview of my setup:
My existing server:
- IIS on Windows 2000, PHP 4.3.3.
My new server:
- IIS6 on Windows Server 2003, PHP 5.2.0 (ISAPI).
My DB server:
- MS SQL 2000.
I encountered two problems, the first problem was with installing PHP 5.2.0 (zip file). The
recommended php.ini did NOT work, even with modifications to directory settings. I would either get
a blank screen or an error message.
I discovered that the existing php.ini file used for our 4.3.3 deployment worked for 5.2.0! I needed
to make a few subtle changes but I found that the supplied php.ini file in 5.2.0 simply did NOT work
in my environment. I would need to do further testing to determine what the offending lines are.
The second problem was with the ntwdblib.dll file. This was easily fixed by downloading a newer
version (2000.80.194.0) from http://webzila.com and replacing the
file in the C:\PHP directory.
I hope this info is helpful! :)
