Be careful to specify the flag PREG_SET_ORDER if you want the matches array to behave as described
under "matches". The behavior described there is not actually the default! The default
behavior is what's shown under the PREG_PATTERN_ORDER flag.
Hopefully this documentation bug (http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=42159) will be fixed soon, but
until then, check your flags.
