The documentation states that: You do not need to pass every array to stream_select(). You can leave it out and use an empty array or NULL instead. Also do not forget that those arrays are passed by reference and will be modified after stream_select() returns. This appears to be incorrect, at least in PHP 5.1.6, because PHP sees these parameters are passed by reference and thus insists on a bona fide variable for the reference to refer to: Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference is what you get if you pass NULL or anything else literally. ---- Server IP: 69.147.83.197 Probable Submitter: 66.233.215.126 ---- Manual Page -- http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.stream-select.php Edit -- https://master.php.net/note/edit/77164 Del: integrated -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/77164/integrated Del: useless -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/77164/useless Del: bad code -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/77164/bad+code Del: spam -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/77164/spam Del: non-english -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/77164/non-english Del: in docs -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/77164/in+docs Del: other reasons-- https://master.php.net/note/delete/77164 Reject -- https://master.php.net/note/reject/77164 Search -- https://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php
