This is the book that should come with PHP5's OOP support IMHO. The manual only documents the
nitty-gritty of PHP5's OOP syntax. This book will teach you how to use that syntax to code
elegantly in OOP terms. It has helped me get my head around thinking in terms of OOP. The code
examples are fairly simple and in Java and C++. PHP5's OOP syntax is very similar to
Java's. I would highly recommend this book if you are serious about learning to design and code
in PHP5 OOP style.
Title: OOP Demystified
Authors: Jim Keogh & Mario Giannini
Publisher: Osborne/McGraw Hill
ISBN: 0-07-225363-0
Price: $19.95 USA, $28.95 CDN, £12.99 UK
The authors have the ability to explain OOP concepts in a very easy to understand manner. Having
said that, it has taken me three passes at the book for things to start falling into place for me.
Once you have mastered thinking and designing with OOP, that will be applicable for any other OOP
language. The concepts of OOP remain the same, whatever language you are using to implement those
designs in.
I'm finally getting the picture of how polymorphism works, and objects are instantiated
on-the-fly dynamically at run time.
Interfaces are no longer a mystery to me now either.
HTH.
