P.s. to my Oct. 9 note below - turns out that my server running php 5.1.4 exhibits this behavior
with any use of a variable name (not just for objects) which matches the key of a $_SESSION item.
For example: the value of $_SESSION['order'] gets modified by a line such as:
<?php $order='string'; ?>
This does not happen on my server running php 5.2.1.
