On very low level POSTs (AJAX, XML RPC etc.) the $GLOBALS['HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA'] var might
not contain data because of your php.ini settings. If that's the case you can use php://input
to retrieve this low level data:
// read raw POST data
$input = file_get_contents('php://input');
