@Uday -- your suggestion to change the Configuration mapping in IIS to one including the double-quotes (from the default post-MSI install to the full "C:\Program Files\PHP\php5isapi.dll") did the trick. Thanks! I gather, from the number of posts on this page, that you've saved me something on the order of several days' worth of frustration.
