Hate to be negative, but PHP's handling of XML is just...well...retarded. PHP takes a simple
thing like XML and turns it into a ridiculously complex affair. The way that they tried to
represent a tree structure with arrays is ridiculous--like watching a three-ring circus. They
should've added a new tree-node variable type to the PHP language. Then, these massive amounts
of convoluted code would've been unnecessary.
