This is such a useful function!!!
I have shared hosting and recently i have found that now and again the connection to the server is
dropped half way through script execution! When its dropped i just get error after error that the
queries are failing.
With the ping function you can check to see if a query failed due to syntax errors in the query OR
if it was because their is no longer a connection to the database and so perform a reconnect.
Very useful function :-)
