To get PHP to build correctly you need the output of these commands when you make. [root@graf-spee local]# pkg-config --cflags openssl -I/usr/kerberos/include [root@graf-spee local]# pkg-config --libs openssl -L/usr/kerberos/lib -lssl -lcrypto -lresolv -lgssapi_krb5 -lkrb5 -lk5crypto -lcom_err -ldl -lz These could be added to your make command thus. I have not tested it out, but should work with some tweaking make EXTRA_LDFLAGS=pkg-config --libs openssl EXTRA_CFLAGS=pkg-config --cflags openssl
