Tired after trying to install PHP5.2.5 manually, auto installer php-5.2.5-win32-installer
worked(atleast for now until I encounter a problem) fine unlike the first time. First time auto
installer stopped with a note that it couldn't find php_mbstring.dll file, but it worked
finally on my AMD turion vista notebook.
I wanted to leave a note that I can't stop wondering why most of the installation manuals so
confusing. Building complecated softwares such as PHP takes lot of genius people but why do they
leave the manual part to, I guess, 'who don't know how to write manual in a simple
way' people.
I found only two tasks to be done as what I beleive from what I udnerstood in the manual in order to
install PHP5,
1. copy the file to the Windows system directory, copy the file to the web server's directory,
or add your PHP directory, C:\php to the PATH.
2. The next step is to set up a valid configuration file for PHP, php.ini.
Like most people, not being an expert I tried to follow the manual but I couldln't understand,
'copy the file to the Windows system directory', is it windows\system or windows\system32
? A simple attention to it could save a lot of people's time and confusion.
Another note: After installing the PHP5 (with auto installer) I looked in the system and system32
folders for php5ts.dll file and the run time variables for PHPRC, but eaither was found.
I am not an expert and i dont know how auto installers work, I am just curious and confused.
