If you experience Apache crashes on a Windows platform with PHP 5.1.2 while trying to access Oracle,
try exchanging the php_oci8.dll that comes with the distribution, with the one that is on http://pecl4win.php.net/ext.php/php_oci8.dll.
After much trouble while trying many install options this finally solved my issues and worked fine.
