Seems to work okay for me:

$mm = 3440;
$inch = $mm * 25.4;
$inchint = settype($inch,"int");
include('test.php');
?>
test.php
<?php
echo $mm . '<br />'; // returns 3440
echo $inch . '<br />'; // returns 87376
echo $inchint . '<br />'; // returns 1 whether it's 'included' or
not -- didn't mess with settype()
?>
