Be careful with this function because it's sensitive to locale information.
For example, if you use this function like this:
<?php
setlocale(LC_ALL, "hu_HU");
$s = mysql_real_escape_string(1100/1.2);
// will display 916,66666666667 instead of 916.66666666667
echo $s;
?>
