When constructing strings from text and variables you can use curly braces to "demarcate"
variables from any surrounding text where, for whatever reason, you cannot use a space eg:
$str="Hi my name is ${bold}$name bla-bla";
which AFAIK is the same as
$str="Hi my name is {$bold}$name bla-bla";
