i've tried connecting just through a terminal, and it works fine, so the problem is not within
MySQL itself. i tried changing the host from 'localhost' to my actual URL in the
mysql_connect() and i recieved a different error:
MySQL Connection Failed: Access denied for user: 'skiboard@Carr-10-68.rh.ncsu.edu' (Using
password: YES) in...
now i know for a fact that my username and password are correct b/c i can connect through a terminal
session. i've checked the privilege tables and double checked the password. this is
discouraging to say the least.
