Some shared web hosts allow you to put your own php.ini and override some of the variables. If the .htaccess method mentioned above does not work (it creates a 500 error for us), then try creating a php.ini file with the following line: register_globals = Off If your shared host has setup the server to look for this file, then this will work. If not, you will need to find another way.
