Just an update to the previous post. The last line should use the $imagick object. This works.
header('content-type: image/jpeg');
$imagick = new Imagick();
$imagick->readImage('castle.jpg');
$imagick->rotateImage(new ImagickPixel(), 90);
print $imagick->getImage();
