Probably the worsts installation I have ever had to do. Mainly due to completely obscure (lack of)
documentation.
The first thing I had to do on debian was to download and compile the phplib-lite actual C library.
Of course that was almost the last thing I did.
If you haven't done that, the pecl installation will either fail, or wont run.
You get that here
http://www.pdflib.com/download/pdflib-family/pdflib-lite/
Now of course, after unzipping untarring, and running configure, 'make install' failed.
luckily it was a makefile bug: I went into the libs directory and ran 'make all' and that
made the offending objects that the root 'make install' was bitching about.
Then 'make install' installed me a 'C' library libpdf.so.6 in /usr/local/lib.
THEN 'pecl install pdflib' worked. Or at least after second guessing its idiotic
installation script, it worked.
When it asks you for where the library is, it doesn't REALLY mean that: First select
;'all' then type in '/usr/local/' and then type in a second return. NOW it knows
where to find /usr/local/include/pdflib.h AND where to tell its final target, pdf.so - the php
compatible shim - where to find the actual library.
Now edit the php.ini, or on my case add a file to /etc/php5/conf.d to tell it to load php.so
Restart yer apache, and try a phpinfo, and with an extreme amount of luck, it may just tell you it
actually has pdf suppoert..
It ONLY took me 3 1/2 hours. That about par for a PECL package.
So be warned.
