Try using SoapVar, it'll work with extensions:
Replace
$client->addAds(array('ads' => array($sample_ad) );
with
$client->addAds( new SoapVar( array( 'ads' => array( $sample_ad ) ),
SOAP_ENC_OBJECT, "impl:TextAd" );
Since PHP doesn't strictly type variables you'll have to tell PHP what type of data you
are passing to the SOAP call.
