I tried this and the sleep doesn't sleep at all:
$test = proc_open('hi', array(), $pipes);
sleep(1000);
proc_close($test);
If the sleep is outside of the two proc commands it works perfectly.
PHP Version: 5.2.6
OSX 1.5.6
Seams to be a bug of this php version.
