If you would like use Firebird RPM on Intel x86_64,
usually compile php as ./configure --with-libdir=lib64 --with-interbase=/opt/firebird,
you must install amd64.rpm package.
With i686.rpm you get
checking for InterBase support... yes
checking for isc_detach_database in -lfbclient... no
checking for isc_detach_database in -lgds... no
checking for isc_detach_database in -lib_util... no
configure: error: libgds, libib_util or libfbclient not found! Check config.log for more
information.
and config.log says
skipping incompatible ... libfbclient.so when searching for -lfbclient
