Your solution appears rather complicated. Because sessions use cookies, it appears easier to use the
cookie property that it can be only used on a specific path (subdir) of a domain.
The function 'session_set_cookie_params' can do this for you and appears to work in my
case. Code then looks like:
3 session_set_cookie_params(3600,'/en/');
4 session_start();
