Rafael M. Salvioni's winXP implementation of the function works well but fails for negative
numbers. There is a fault in the line that reads:
<?php
case $locale['n_sign_posn'] == 0 || $flags['signal'] == '(':
?>
it appears to work if the line is changed to read:
<?php
case $locale['n_sign_posn'] == 0 || $flags['usesignal'] == '(':
?>
