There are 2 problems with the Windows installer
when it writes to httpd.conf:
#BEGIN PHP INSTALLER EDITS - REMOVE ONLY ON UNINSTALL
PHPIniDir "C:/PHP/"
LoadModule php5_module "C:/PHP/php5apache2.dll"
#END PHP INSTALLER EDITS - REMOVE ONLY ON UNINSTALL
First, it fails to put this line in:
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
Second, this line is wrong:
LoadModule php5_module "C:/PHP/php5apache2.dll"
The name of the module is:
LoadModule php5_module "C:/PHP/php5apache2_2.dll"
The PHP portion of httpd.conf should look like this:

LoadModule php5_module "C:/PHP/php5apache2_2.dll" <--- filename
