I had problem with Chinese and Korean characters in web page not diplaying properly when viewed in
konqueror.
The page had LANG attribute in HTML tag and meta content-type defined like this (example is for
Korean):
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xml:lang="ko" lang="ko" />
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
... but it did not make difference.
The solution was sending these two header lines before outputting page content:
header('Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8');
header("Content-Language: ko") ;
It seems that the key is Content-Type header. Charset may or may not be set in php.ini and when it
is set it might not be what you need (in this case utf-8).
