"The closing tag for the block will include the immediately trailing newline if one is
present."
Ummm ... whatever happened to trying to *not* surprise the user? Is there even a rationale for
swallowing the newline? After running into this "feature" this morning I tried to come up
with a reason why the user might want to have the newline truncated, but I couldn't even invent
one. What is the rationale? If it's a performance thing, it should probably be configurable and
default to what the user expects (not swallowing the newline).
