Regarding the solution offered up by "christian at SPAM at IS at DEAD at MEAT at karg dot
org": when you're running Debian with SELinux extensions, the same is also true for it.
I've dumped my resolv.conf and hosts files into /var/www/etc, and it fixed the problem for me,
as well.
