Sami and Mega-Squall, try turning on a higher level of error reporting. You will see that what
you're doing does in fact generate errors. It may not generate them at the level of E_WARN and
it may not be fatal, but it's there at E_STRICT.
If you're finding in PHP6 that these new errors have come up it's because E_STRICT got a
bit of a rethink and is now part of E_ALL (surprisingly it wasn't in earlier php versions) and
it's not that surprising that the error for abusing -> and :: couldbe moved to a warning.
To turn on E_STRICT error reporting you need to use a binary or:
<?php
// this is better set in php.ini -- NB this is correct in php5
error_reporting(E_ALL | ESTRICT);
?>
So, php doesn't want you doing what you're claiming after all.
