And neither does this: $ClassName::$MethodName($arg); Yet another way to trigger a parse error. I don't get it... I always liked PHP because of it's 'flexibility'. When I started programmering in C++, it was a living hell due to the strict rules compared to those of PHP. But now PHP seems unthorough and limited. (This is in no way a question or a request for a new feature, it's merely loud thinking. If you take this a request for a feature anyway and delete it, I can only assume you are aware of the severe leakages and limitations of your work and refuse to be critisized about it, even if it's constructive. But these advices may keep PHP's head above the water regarding the evolution of several other web-languages. Otherwise, one may choose a vaster language, like ASP.net w/ C#/VB.net). The guys behind PHP should take a look at C# and adapt some of the advantages, like the property. It would be nice to be able to use the &-operator in situations other than passing a reference to a variable to a function. It would be nice to be able to actually see the address of the variable (although surely the PHP-team has no control of the addresses of the variables as they are stored in a different way than real computer variables.) And since you now allow function-parameters of a specific type, you would do the world a huge favor by getting rid of the "function" and "var" keywords an replace then with keywords like int, string, void, double, float etc. (perhaps even object and resource). I'm not saying "change the language in a way that will make it look like C/C++", and that's why I'm not going to suggest you to remove the $-sign before variables (although it's ugly and meaningless, I mean who cares if you can write "Hello $name" instead of "Hello " . $name)... But at least remove the obsolete "->"-operator. It can no longer be used to tell pointers and regular objects apart as pointers are the only type of variables you can create in PHP (which I highly disapprove of; I know PHP is made in C and use the same syntax in many ways, but even C has the . operator, so at least support both). Sorry for misspellings or any offending expressions in this text. As I already stated, this is just loud thinking and, of course, just my opinion. Surely someone out there will disagree with me, but it can't be helped. I may not even be fair, but I'm honest and I am certain that I'm not the only one who wants PHP down this road that I'm representing. ---- Server IP: 87.54.44.10 Probable Submitter: 212.242.113.145 ---- Manual Page -- http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.strpos.php Edit -- https://master.php.net/note/edit/89626 Del: integrated -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/89626/integrated Del: useless -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/89626/useless Del: bad code -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/89626/bad+code Del: spam -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/89626/spam Del: non-english -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/89626/non-english Del: in docs -- https://master.php.net/note/delete/89626/in+docs Del: other reasons-- https://master.php.net/note/delete/89626 Reject -- https://master.php.net/note/reject/89626 Search -- https://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php
