how to display a shortened text string with an elipsis, but on word boundaries only.

$words = preg_split("/[\s]+/", $string);
$newstring = '';
$numwords = 0;
foreach ($words as $word) {
if ((strlen($newstring) + 1 + strlen($word)) < $max) {
$newstring .= ' '.$word;

return $newstring;
}
