I am having this issue in 4.2.2 with Postgres 8.2.3
I decided to just disable editRow from ever updating bytea fields with a simple:
if (in_array($types[$key], array("bytea", "bytea[]"))) { continue; }
right after the 'foreach($vars as $key => $value) {'
I recognize this being a dirty hack so I might revisit it later and post a better
"pg_escape_bytea" based solution.
