@qjerry.com, no. The fastest way to strip the xml declaration from a document is to do this:

$xmldoc = new DOMDocument;
$xmldoc->loadXML($str_with_xml_declaration);
echo $xmldoc->saveXML($xmldoc->documentElement);
?>
