This is a perfect example of why php is getting worse and worse. Instead of starting with a good
language concept, php started on the wrong foot years ago. Everything that was needed to transform
it into a modern language was plugged onto it later. It is a good thing to update a language, but
the ever lasting "upwards compatibility" requirement leads to these kind of evil
solutions. The late binding omission is just a bug, and the self keyword could have been used for
late bindings, because what is the use of an early binding? What we see here is that instead of
fixing 'self', we get a recyled keyword. I think we come to a level where the php language
should be considered broken beyond repair.
