The page was strongly advocating the manual installation steps, so I tried that. And failed. Then,
after some frustration and googling, I undid everything i did when installing manually. Then I used
the automatic installers. Voila - everything worked smoothly!
The moral: Do not trust the geeks - use the user-friendly solutions :-)
