If you have also run into this undocumented "feature" and dont want to rewrite all the
code, here's the solution.
Instead of:
foreach ($a as $key => &$value) {
unset($a[$key]);
}
use:
foreach ($a as $key => $whatever) {
$value = &$a[$key];
unset($a[$key]);
}
