Those of you using MediaWiki who encounter the error:
Error creating thumbnail: Incomplete GD library configuration: missing function imagecreatefromjpeg
should pay attention to this discussion thread (above) [or if you are seeing this error on someone
else's Wiki, direct their webmaster here].
For my situation on RHEL 4, MediaWiki 1.15.1, PHP 5.3.0 (apache2handler), and MySQL 5.1.39-log, I
had to install the libpng-devel-1.2.2-16.i386.rpm, then recompile PHP (adding --with-jpeg-dir before
--with-gd), reinstall, and check the output of phpinfo() for the word JPEG Support (enabled).
