Since max() can be a bit slow, you may be better doing the following if you want to find the max out
of several 1-dimensional arrays:
$d1 = array(1,5,6,9);
$d2 = array(10,12,15,19);
$d3 = array(1,2);
$myMax = max( array_merge($d1, $d2, $d3) );
